Breckenridge - Things to do in the Winter
Breckenridge has plenty to do outside once the lifts have closed, or for your rest day during a week of vacation.
Dinner Sleigh Rides. Imagine being swept along a picturesque snow covered valley nestled under warm blankets in a cozy horse drawn sleigh. Gaze up at the brilliant star filled sky and the dramatic panorama of towering snow capped peaks. THEN... Slip on a pair of sheep skin slippers and enjoy a drink by a rustic stone fireplace. Indulge in a true western buffet with prime rib and chicken and all the tasty fixings, while some of the countries finest musicians make a most memorable evening for you and your family.
Hut Trips. If you’re looking for a unique backcountry experience, we highly recommend taking a hut trip. Across the central Rocky Mountains there are 29 backcountry huts connected by 350 miles of backcountry terrain. You are bound to have the experience of a lifetime. Reservations are highly recommended.
Ice Skating. Maggie Pond Located at The Village at Breckenridge base area, Maggie Pond offers an outdoor skating experience for the whole family. The pond is open all day until 10:00 PM (weather permitting). Skate rentals are offered on-site. For information on Maggie Pond hours and pricing, please contact Breckenridge Sports at The Maggie. Guests are encouraged to call ahead, as variable weather conditions may impact skating hours. The Maggie is located at the Village at Breckenridge Resort, 535 S. Park Avenue in Breckenridge.
Ski Racing. Race the clock and hone your skills on our 900-foot NASTAR race course. The course is located on Lower American, just below Union Road on Peak 9. Whether you’re a novice on the gates, or a true competitor looking for a challenge, this action-packed activity is fun for a group of friends or for the entire family.
Nordic Skiing & Snowshoe Center. Discover cross-country skiing (32Km) & nature snowshoe (15Km) trails (easy, rolling and expert terrain) in the White River National Forest. Full service lodge with snack bar, ski school/tours, rental/retail/wax/repair shop, and complimentary parking.
Sledding. Take your sled, your mittens and your friends to Carter Park, home to one of the only sledding locations in town. Carter Park is located at the south end of High Street and adjacent to Breckenridge Elementary School. (Sledding at the Breckenridge ski resort is not permitted)
Dog Sledding. Here’s your opportunity to take a guided trip to ghost towns and mining sites for an up-close look at Breckenridge’s past. Zip along the trails while experiencing the wonders of winter.
